I saw Breaking Dawn today with my sister and mother. It was better than I was anticipating. Out of the series, it wasn’t exactly my favorite book. I thought the whole switch over to Jacob’s point of view was entertaining, but totally unnecessary and the whole build up in the end of this 700 page book is really for nothing in the end. I wasn’t exactly thrilled with it as a closer for such a popular series. But I also didn’t hate it. I did read the series 4 or 5 times so clearly I can’t complain too much. Continue
Those of you who’ve watched the Twilight Saga movies, but never read the books may be asking yourself, “Who the heck is Bree Tanner?” Even if you did read the entire Saga you may still be wondering, “Why the heck did Bree get her own book?” You are not alone.
I read the entire saga and have seen all of the movies so far and this is the question I asked myself before reading this novella as well. Of all of the characters in the entire series, why Bree? She was hardly a notable character, only being seen briefly at the end of the battle against the newborns in Eclipse. I could certainly think of several other characters that would be better suited to have their own story told. (Like finishing “Midnight Sun” from Edward’s perspective.) So again, why Bree?
Stephenie Meyer states in the beginning of the book, “Personally, I never figured out why some of my characters take on strong lives of their own, but I’m always happy when they do. Those characters are the most effortless to write, and so their stories are usually the ones that get finished. Bree is one of those characters,…” as her reasoning for releasing this novella. I suppose as a writer myself I can relate to how some characters speak to you more than others and for this reason I gave the book a shot with an open mind. And I’ll admit it wasn’t bad. Continue

Unlike New Moon, I did not attend the midnight showing of Eclipse and for several reasons:
1. My movie watching companion (my sister) had to work
2. I wasn’t as amped for the movie as I have been in the past (see reasoning below)
3. I’d rather not be there amongst all the rabid screaming little girls this time
So I saw the movie last Saturday morning instead, three days after its release (obviously I couldn’t wait too long) and I was happy with this decision. The theater was fairly packed, but there was no one on either side of our seats and since it was so early the majority of the crowd were people my age or older (basically woman who don’t squeal as much). I was surprised by the amount of men in the crowd for Eclipse in comparison to New Moon, but my sister replied to that comment with, “They’re only here because their girlfriends made them come.” While she’s probably right, Eclipse was by far the best male targeted film of the bunch and my favorite so far.
